Goldwork Owl

I've attached some photo's showing progress and completion of a small goldwork owl I created that will be attached to the Midrealm Kingdom A&S Champion sash.  I had the priviledge of being the "Premier" A&S Champion of the Day, thanks to TRM Eikbrander and Runa.  Since the Champions are permitted to include a small item representing them, I have choose my heraldic animial, an owl.  For those that know me, embroidery is one of the skills I am most noted for, so it only made sense to embroider an owl.

In this piece, I used a felted burgundy colored wool.  After designing my owl, I cut out small pieces of felt to raise and pad the head, body and wings.  I then used imitation Jap gold and couched the owl.  Afterwards, I used burgundy silk thread to outline the owl and define the face.  Finally, I glued rhinestones for the eyes.  I would have preferred beads or something a bit more period, but due to the size, I choose the best I could find.
